The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has published the NSQ list for October Month.
New Delhi: India is the largest producer and manufacturer of drugs, medicines in the world, yet many Indians are unable to access good-quality drugs thorugh out their life. This was highlighted in a report by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). On Friday, the Health Ministry announced that India’s drug regulator had identified 90 medicines and drugs in October month that were substandard and manufactured in violation of regulatory norms.
List of Medicines For the Month of October Month
The drug regulator conducted quality tests on different medicines,drugs,injection, and 90 of them failed. These medicines,drugs were not manufactured according as per pre described standards. Of particular concern is that among the failed drug samples are Trypsin and Chymotrypsin Tablets (Lysoflam Forte), which are most commonly used to provide relieve in severe pain and swelling in postoperative wounds and other inflammatory situation.
Is Your Medicine Fake? CDSCO Has Released the NSQ List
As part of routine regulatory monitoring, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) releases a monthly list of non-standard quality (NSQ) and counterfeit drugs on its website. For October 2024 month, the Central Drugs Laboratories identified 56 drug samples as not of standard quality (NSQ), while the State Drug Testing Laboratories found 34 drug samples to be NSQ.
The Quality of These Medicines is Poor
The drug belongs to batch number LFTF24002C, produced by M/s Cachet Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh state, has been found to be not of standard quality. Similarly, an anti fungal drug prepared by M/s United Biotech (P) Ltd., also in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, has failed to meet the required quality standards. Additionally, Diclofenac Sodium, Paracetamol, and Chlorzoxazone Tablets, a muscle pain reliever produced by M/s Modern Laboratories in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, have also been identified as not of standard quality. So it is not for one state, such failed sample of medicine is coming from through out different states of the country.
These Medicines Failed Last Month
Biocetamol-500, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to relieve pain and fever, produced by Skymap Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. Based in Solan distt, of Himachal Pradesh, has also been found to be not of standard quality. Additionally, Glimepiride Tablet IP 2 mg with batch number LMT240333, used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and prepared by Life Max Cancer Laboratories in Uttarakhand state, has also failed to meet the per-required quality standards.
The Drug Regulator Conducts Random Checks of Medicines Every Month
Drug samples are classified as not of standard quality when they fail to meet one or more specified quality parameters. The ministry reported that in October month, three drug samples collected by the Bihar Drug Control Authority were identified as duplicate drugs. These drugs were manufactured by unauthorized and unknown producers, who used original brand names owned by other companies.
The ministry stated that an investigation has been launched into the matter. The process of identifying NSQ and fake drugs is conducted regularly in collaboration with state regulators to ensure that these drugs are identified and removed from the market.
The CDSCO identified 71 drugs and medicines manufactured by different pharmaceutical companies situtated in different parts of India as not of standard quality or found duplicate in September month. Among these, Metronidazole Tablets I.P. 400 mg, an antimicrobial agent used to treat bacterial infections in the blood, brain, lungs, bones, stomach lining, intestines, gums, teeth, and wound infections post-delivery or surgery, was found to be not of defined standard quality.
List Of Medicine Found Duplicate Or Fake On October
The drugs and medicines identified as not of standard quality or duplicate have different batch numbers. Once these drugs are declared as duplicates or non standard quality, the manufacturing companies and firm are required to withdraw the affected batches from the market. Between July and September, the CDSCO has already detected 195 drugs and medicines that were found to be fake or not of standard quality.
