What is Aadhaar Card And How it is Beneficial To You

Aadhaar is a 12 digit UID no.(Unique Identification Number) issued by UIDAI(Unique Identification Authority of India on behalf of Govt. of India. This number will be used as an identity proof and address proof across India.

The UIDAI was formed under the Planning Commission by an executive order in January 2009. The agency was established in February 2009. The agency is responsible for providing the unique ID numbers to the people who does not own any ID proof.

The agency is also responsible for maintaining the records of their basic information – name, age, address, sex, phone number and biometrics. Nandan Nilekani is the master mind of this .He was appointed as the first Chairman of the authority in June 2009 but now he is not on the same position as he resigned in March 2014 to be a part of Lok Sabha Elections.

It was next shifted to Vijay Madan, a 1981 batch IAS officer and director general ad mission director of UIDAI. The Central Government has been unable to secure statutory approval for the authority after the National Identification Authority of India Bill 2010 was rejected by the Parliamentary Standing Committee as “unethical and violative of Parliament prerogatives”.
