The central government of India has prepared the E Shram Portal for 38 crore workers of the country. The Government of India has a national level database for unorganized workers for the overall welfare of crores of unorganized workers of the nation. The Modi government has started this e-shram portal in whole country with the aim of providing workers with their e-shram cards, which later will be linked with their Aadhaar cards as well for convenience.
E Shram card Registration
The Labor Ministry of India has tweeted that: “More than 7 crore Unorganized Workers (UWs) have already been registered on the E Shram Portal eshram.gov.in”. Under one portal of Indian Government, more than 38 crore unorganized workers/labor will be registered in the country. Registration under E Shram Card is completely free of charge and workers do not have to pay anything for their registration at Common Service Centers (CSCs), or under State Government Regional Offices.

They can also register themselves via directly visiting E Shram Portal. Bank details are being obtained while registration process to ensure hassle free distribution of various benefits under social security schemes or any benefits directly transferred into the laborer’s account by the Central/State Government officials. So banks are instructed about the scheme and there will be no deduction from the employee’s bank account after completion of E Shram Card registration process.
Labor Card Registration Eligibility
There are no income criteria for registration on the E Shram Portal as an organized worker. However, no worker should be an income tax payer. Any worker who is unorganized and is between 16-59 years of age is eligible for E Shram Card registration.
How To Register For E Shram Card
) To register e-SHRAM portal, log on to the official website eshram.gov.in.
) Click on the link ‘Register on e-SHRAM’ on the home page.
) Enter Aadhaar linked mobile number and captcha code and click on send OTP.
) Follow the similar instructions to complete the registration process.
After completion of the E Shram Portal registration, an E-Shram Card will be provided to the workers with a unique Universal Account Number (UAN) and they will be able to access different type of forms with the help of this E Shram Card. You will be able to get the benefits of social security schemes anywhere, anytime throughout the country.
E-Shram Card Status Check
It will contain the basic information of the laborer’s like name, occupation, address, educational qualification, skill type and family details etc. So that their employability can be maximized and the benefits of social security schemes can be extended to them more easily. This is the first ever national database of unorganized workers including migrant workers, construction workers, gig and platform workers and others.
Documents Required for Shram Card
The worker will need documents along with them such as Aadhar number, mobile number, Aadhar card linked with bank account to register on E Shram Portal. It may be noticed that in case a laborer does not have an Aadhaar card linked with mobile number, he/she can visit the nearby CSC and do the E Shram Card registration through Bio-metric authentication process.

After registration on E Shram Portal, workers will get accident insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana(PMSBY). In future, all social security benefits of unorganized workers will be distributed with the help of this portal only. In any kind of situations like emergency and national pandemic, this database can be used to provide necessary support to all eligible unorganized workers.
Benefits Of Shram Card
This E Shram Card will be made only once in a lifetime means registration of sharm will be done once and will be valid throughout the country. In this, the benefits of the schemes will be transferred directly to their bank accounts by our government. Benefit of Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojana will also be available in this scheme. On the death of the laborer, an amount of up to two lakhs will be given. For example, if there is an epidemic like corana, then during that time the amount given by the government will come directly to the account of the registered worker on the E Shram Portal.
